| A Touch of Ginger Delight www | Vietnamese | Informal | This has been a popular lunch stop for many who work in the Sunridge Mall area for years. Dorothy likes it for the low prices, and Grant says the food is tasty, so both sides of the equation are met. They specialize in both Vietnamese and Thai food, though the majority of dishes are Vietnamese. Good vegetarian selection. | 3449A - 26 Ave. NE

| A & W www | Hamburgers | Fast Food | This was Grant's first experience of fast food back in the time when servers on roller skates put trays on your car windowsill. We still like to go back for the sake of nostalgia, but unfortunately the fries and onion rings are bland and the burgers are OK, but only in a 1950's sort of way. | Sunridge Mall 403 280-1768 Marlborough Town Square 403 272-1715 Franklin Mall 403 248-7640 | |||||||
| Booster Juice: Juice and Smoothier Bar www | Juice | Fast Food | Juice is the new panacea for those who want healthy food in a hurry. Here you find it. From yogurt to mango, from soy to açaí, they will whip the ingredients to your taste's desire. And with every drink you get a free booster. From protein to echinacea and from calcium to ginseng, they will do their best to keep your body alive and well. Good vegetarian selection. | Sunridge Mall 403 590-8770 | |||||||
| Harvey's www | Hamburger | Fast Food | Our favourite we-put-on-it-what-you-want hamburger outlet. It's the staff, not the food that is usually the problem. Good vegetarian selection. | 525 - 36 St. NE 403 276-9641 | M to Sa 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. Su, Holidays 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. | ||||||
| Jugo Juice www | Juice | Informal | The staff is friendly and have a good knowledge of what they are making—especially those strange extra ingredients. If you just want a quick, wholesome drink, or even a complete meal with one of their wraps or sandwiches do drop by. Good vegetarian selection—of course. | Sunridge Mall 403 285-8839 | |||||||
| The Keg Steakhouse & Bar www | Steak | Informal | A good medium-priced steak house though we have found a definite wabble in quality with the Stadium location coming out above most of the others. Except at their downtown locations and for reasons we do not understand, they do not take reservations, so expect long waits at key times. | 425 - 36 St. NE 403 235-5858 | |||||||
| KFC www | Chicken | Fast Food | Some foods are difficult to rate because their taste is unique and can't be compared to anything but others foods which have imitated them. Yes, we know we can't call it "Kentucky Fired Chicken" anymore, because someone might think about the fat content, even though now it is vegetable oil. The gravy and coleslaw have changed from the good old days when the Colonel was alive, but still the taste is addictive, and you get what you expect. | 2525 - 36 St. NE | Home delivery: 403 296-0000. | ||||||
| Olive Garden | Italian | Informal | Another home of mass produced average Italian food, though not as good as some others. | 333 - 36 St. NE 403 248-1020 | Open daily from 11 a.m. | ||||||
| Pho Xuan | Vietnamese | Informal | The decor is minimal, though in a rather authentic way. The portions are large, making this an excellent spoonful/dollar place to eat, though the largess of the portions is balanced out by a sight downturn in the quality of some ingredients, like the barbecued pork.. | 920 - 36 St. NE (across from T & T) 403 204-1299 | |||||||
| Quizno's Subs www | Sandwiches | Informal | They're toasty hot with just enough bread. For a fast sub, they are hard to beat. But don't feel you have to pick the large size unless you want two meals worth or have a Dawson–sized appetite. Good vegetarian selection. The name does vary slightly from one store to another, but let the business people worry about that. | Marlborough Mall 403 204-2338 | |||||||
| Red Lobster www | Seafood | Informal | Sea food, but as with many such Calgary restaurants, deep frying and pan frying seem to be the most creative they can get. | #100 6100 Macleod Tr. SW (across from Chinook) 403 252-818 | 312 - 35 St. NE 403 248-8111 | Su to Th 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. F, Sa 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. | |||||
| Ricky's All Day Grill | Grill | Informal | The setting is homey; the service is fine; the food is good. All in all, though, this is a pale imitation of other better rib places, and the difference in price would make us shun the pale and take the real. | 3321 - 20 Ave. NE 403 571-3220 | |||||||
| Samosa Garden | East Indian | Informal | The cuisine here is predominantly East Indian but with a touch of East African and some interesting mutations like Tandoori Caesar Salad as well. The second floor setting is a bright combination of eastern and western artefacts with lots of plants and a view. (OK, it's a view of Sunridge Mall, but there's a lot of fine sky beyond it.) The service is friendly delivering well-presented and tasty dishes. One of our complaints about East Indian food has been small portions, but here we even had some left over. There is no wheelchair entrance, but you can order from the Coffee Culture downstairs if you wish. | #210 3393 - 26 Ave. NE (just south of Peter Lougheed Hospital) 403 250-2515 | Lunch Buffet: Su noon - 4:00 p.m. M to Th 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. F, Sa 11: 30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Dinner: Su 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. M to Th 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. F, Sa 5:00 p.m. - midnight | ||||||
| The Second Cup | Coffee | Informal | The coffee was a bit strong, and we don't know where the spoons were, but this is an adequate place to pick up coffee for the office or grab a cup while shopping. Good vegetarian selection. | 3800 Memorial Dr. NE 403 569-811 Sunridge Corner NE 403 250-3557 | |||||||
| T & T Gourmet www | Chinese | Fast Food | After shopping at T & T, one of the largest oriental supermarkets in Calgary, you should remember that this is also the place to find a good, inexpensive, fast meal at their deli. But beware as Dorothy couldn't finish her three-choice meal, it was so large. There is a good variety of Chinese dishes, though we did feel a little more spice would have added to the meal. | Pacific Place # 800 999 - 36 St NE 403 569-6888 M to Th 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. F to Su 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. | Harvest Hills Crossing #1000 - 9650 Harvest Hills Blvd. NE 403 237-6608 M to Th 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. F -toSu 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. | ||||||
| Tim Hortons www | Coffee | Informal | Our first problem was classifying Timmy's. It started out, of course, as a doughnut shop, but now serves everything from breakfast sandwiches to soup and chili. But most people think of it as their supplier of coffee. So, although it doesn't have the many speciality preparations of the others in this category, we decided that we would go with the coffee designation. Mind you, Grant found the coffee a bit bitter for his taste, but Dorothy balanced this out with an opinion that their hot chocolate was among the best around. And as we both thought the food items, including the doughnuts, were great tastse and value for the price, we finally did manage to come up with a rating. Good vegetarian selection. | Use the store locator to find the location nearest to you. Or step out the door, and you will probably see one. |
