Bill's Peking House Restaurant www	Chinese	Informal	We were a bit worried about this one. After all "Bill's" and "Chinese" don't usually go well together. But we discovered that this second-floor establishment is well worth the climb. The portions were large, and well cooked, and the pleasant decor with a view out over Fish Creek Park made this a surprisingly enjoyable experience, well-worth a try. Charly Chan's Szechuan Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	Don't let the downstairs location fool you. The setting is bright and inviting. The food is good, but not outstanding. The staff were pleasant, though they were a little overeager with the table cleaning. It seemed that every time we laid down a chopstick, someone was there with cloth to clean up the mark. Dragon Gate Restaurant	Chinese	Buffet	The service was non-existent, except for a point in the general direction of our table. We weren't even asked if we wanted a menu or to try the buffet, and no one offered us tea or anything else to drink. Dragon Pearl Restaurant www	Chinese	Informal	This restaurant has been in Inglewood for about a billion years and is well-known throughout the city. And there are touches of that heritage still to be seen—the red, electrically-lit altar just across from the crimson Coca-Cola clock. But especially in the last little while the decor has gradually been updated to give the space a comfortable, current look. The food is good, and we have noticed that they have spiced it up as the general population has grown more accustomed to hotter dishes. Gee Gong	Chinese	Noodle House	This is a local Chinese fast food eatery, so don't expect anything fancy in service or on the menu, but the food is good and the place is packed especially at lunch time. Gong Kee Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	This is a Formica and simplicity neighbourhood restaurant, heavily patronized by the Chinese community. Take out is a big part of the business as shown by the fact that they have two telephone numbers. And in the midst of the friendly informality, the food is excellent. Then as you leave, you can even stop and buy some BBQ meat if the supply hasn't run out for the day. Good vegetarian selection. Hawkwood Palace Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	Friendly staff in a pleasant setting make this a sure destination for those in the area. Our decision was split on the food, however. There are some very good dishes, but these are balanced by some quite ordinary ones. So we're sitting on the fence with a 4 rating. You can come to your own conclusions. Hi-Ball Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	Their $6.50 lunch buffet has a wide variety and their food in general is good at a low price, but unfortunately quantity and cheapness come at the expense of quality and taste with too much batter and dough and not enough meat and vegetables. Silver Dragon Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	Who remembers Calgary without the Silver Dragon? Indeed it has been rumoured that when Laozi fled China in the Third Century BCE, he may have been heading here to establish this eatery. Nevertheless, the food remains delicious with generous portions and the setting old–style but not worn. Reservations suggested. Silver Inn	Chinese	Informal	When we first came to Calgary, this was one of our favourite Chinese restaurants. Some years later it moved to the north hill, and we lost close contact, but have continued to go back occasionally. Each time, however, we have found the food less appetizing than the time before. The batters have become doughier; the portions, smaller; and the hots, milder. In all, it just isn't what it used to be. Singapore Sam's www	Chinese	Buffet	This favourite with the noonhour crowd has a large buffet, including some items not found in many spreads like sticky rice and french fries. The Mongolian grill selection is small, but provides a pleasant addition to the mix. However, in spite of our first pleasurable impressions, we found many dishes cool and were not offered anything to drink until we had been there for about 20 minutes even though the evening crowd was not large. Sun's BBQ Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	The setting, the staff and the food are quite authentically Chinese (with a bit of Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese thrown in to make it interesting). This is good, especially if you want to try pig ear, pork intestine or pig stomach. Unfortunately authenticity has another side as well. The dishes were good, but nothing really captivated our taste buds, and there was just a little too much oil and fat for our taste. Can this be found in many "authentic" south Asian haunts? T & T Gourmet www	Chinese	Fast Food	After shopping at T & T, one of the largest oriental supermarkets in Calgary, you should remember that this is also the place to find a good, inexpensive, fast meal at their deli. But beware as Dorothy couldn't finish her three-choice meal, it was so large. There is a good variety of Chinese dishes, though we did feel a little more spice would have added to the meal. Tiki Ming	Chinese	Fast Food	Amy Quon and company moved from Shan Tung to this new location in a downtown fast food court. At first, I must admit we were rather sceptical because the quality at such places is usually limited to steam table mediocre. But to our surprise many of our favourites from times past appeared before us freshly prepared and still delicious. At fast food prices, you can't beat this kind of meal. Toi Shan Restaurant	Chinese	Informal	On weekends especially this small strip mall location is a busy one indeed. The decor is simple with a rather authentic Chinese sense of clutter. However, although the portions are large, the food is on average rather average. There are daily specials and a lunch buffet. They also provide free delivery within a 5 km radius on orders over $18.
