| Gee Gong | Chinese | Noodle House | This is a local Chinese fast food eatery, so don't expect anything fancy in service or on the menu, but the food is good and the place is packed especially at lunch time. It's also a good place to buy barbecued pork to take home. | 206c Centre St. S 264-1533 | Su 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. M to Th 10:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. F 10:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sa 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. | ||||||
| Regency Palace | Chinese | Buffet | There is is a good selection, but watch the MSG, and some of the food was cold. | 4 Ave. & Centre St. S 777-2288 | Dim sum daily Lunch buffet wkdys and wknds | ||||||
| Regency Palace | Chinese | Informal | We like ordering from the menu better than going to the buffet. This restaurant is well supported by the local Chinese community, who make good use of their excellent banquet service. | 4 Ave. & Centre St. S 777-2288 | Dim sum daily Lunch buffet wkdys and wknds | ||||||
| Sakana Grill | Japanese | Informal | For years this restaurant has been a magnet for business people on their noon hour. The selection is wide, mostly Japanese with a little Chinese (egg drop soup) and other (mud pie) thrown into the mix. The sushi boats continue to circle on their endless journey, and the teppan yaki grills continue to sear to bring the patrons good business lunches. And who notices if the dumplings are a little soggy and the tempura batter is a bit heavy? | 116 - 2 Ave. SW 290-1118 www | |||||||
| Silver Dragon Restaurant | Chinese | Informal | Who remembers Calgary without the Silver Dragon? Indeed it has been rumoured that when Laozi fled China in the Third Century BCE, he may have been heading here to establish this eatery. Nevertheless, the food remains delicious with generous portions and the setting old–style but not worn. Reservations suggested. Good vegetarian selection. | 106 - 3 Ave. SE 264-5326 | |||||||
| Sukiyaki House | Japanese | Informal | This is a part of a local "chain" of Japanese restaurants. The others we have listed by location, and you can try them yourself. Sukiyaki House, has a comfortable traditional Japanese setting, though there are cheats, like spaces under the tables for non-nimble Westerners who don't like sitting on the floor. The service is friendly, and the food quite good, but Dorothy felt that rice would be nice with the tampura, and I have to admit that most restaurants now refill soft drinks free, or at least warn customers if they are going to be charged for another one. Good vegetarian selection. | 517 - 10 Ave. SW 263-3003 | 2nd floor, 211 Banff Ave., Banff (403) 762-2002 | Kyoto 17 908 - 17 Ave. SW 245-3188 | O'Cha Japanese Food Calgary International Airport 291-0059 | Sushi Shino Dragon City Mall Centre St. & 4 Ave. SE 262-8805 | Su 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. M to F 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. M to Th 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. F, Sa 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. |
